Our Story — A Century-Old Plantation since 1874
It all began in the 19th century on the fertile slopes of Basse-Terre. The Grand Café estate cultivated coffee, cacao and vanilla. The name "Grand Café" still carries that heritage — when Capesterre-Belle-Eau plantations supplied European tables with precious aromas.
In the 1940s, coffee prices collapsed. Like many Creole estates in Guadeloupe, the plantation reinvented itself. Banana trees replaced coffee shrubs. The landscape changed. The story continued.
Today, Plantation Grand Café covers 30 hectares of active banana cultivation in Capesterre-Belle-Eau. A family operation, rooted in this corner of Basse-Terre, which chose to open its doors — not to create a museum, but to share a living reality of Caribbean agriculture.
